Gynecomastia

Male Breast Reduction

Excessive breast development in males or Gynecomastia is a relatively common condition that affects 40 to 60 percent of all boys and men. While not physically harmful, it can be extreme source of embarrassment. Male breast reduction removes excessive fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts. Using liposuction, excision or a combination of the two techniques, the procedure can result in a flatter, more masculine chest.

What it can improve

Breast overdevelopment isn't a problem exclusive of females. It's a widespread condition that also affects males of all ages, from teens to senior citizens. Ironically, not a lot is known about it. While anabolic steroids, marijuana, alcohol, estrogen-containing drugs and certain medical conditions, such as impaired liver function and testicular tumors, have been linked to excessive breast development, the cause of the condition, in most cases, is unclear.

What experts do know is that it can be emotionally devastating. Oversized breasts can keep young boys from going swimming and keep older men in fear of pursuing intimate relationships. In the past, sufferers often resorted to wearing thick shirts to conceal their embarrassment. Today, outpatient surgery offers an alternative solution.

Through inconspicuous incisions near the nipple, the surgeon can remove the fatty deposits and glandular tissue responsible for enlarged breasts. The result is a flatter, firmer chest. Even greater, however, is the psychological impact surgery can have. With a more normal-looking chest, comes an increased sense of masculinity and greater self-confidence than ever before.
