Dr. Saferin pursued his undergraduate studies at West Virginia University in Morgantown, then went on to earn his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon completion of an internship in general surgery at Cincinnati General Hospital, Dr. Saferin continued his training in general surgery with a two-year residency at Toledo’s Medical College of Ohio Hospital. This was followed by a two-year residency in plastic surgery at Wayne State University Affiliated Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Saferin is certified (since 1983) by the American Board of Plastic Surgery — the only specialty board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and supported by the American Medical Association for certifying plastic surgeons. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the leading professional surgical organization. Membership signifies that a surgeon’s formal instruction, surgical competence and ethical conduct have undergone a rigorous evaluation and are deemed consistent with the high standards established by the College. Active membership in the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery are further testament to Dr. Saferin’s outstanding professional abilities, strict adherence to medical ethics, and dedication to the highest measure of patient welfare.

In practice since 1976, Dr. Saferin has the advanced education, training and experience necessary to maximize the opportunity for optimal surgical results while minimizing risk. With your safety further in mind, he maintains certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Saferin has served as chief of the section of plastic surgery at several hospitals in the Greater Toledo area, including St. Anne, Riverside and St. Charles. He has also held positions at two institutions of higher learning. Long dedicated to excellence in education. Dr. Saferin was an assistant clinical professor at the Medical University of Ohio in Toledo from 1987 to 1998. More recently (1999– 2006), he was an assistant professor and the pre-medical students academic advisor at The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
